The Endocrinology Department of the Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College was established in the late 1990s and was among the first in the northeast region of Sichuan Province to specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of endocrine and metabolic diseases. After more than twenty years of development, it has become the most advanced and technologically capable center for comprehensive prevention and treatment of endocrine and metabolic diseases in the local area. It is also recognized as a national demonstration unit for diabetes health education. Currently, our department has 62 open beds in the inpatient department, with over 100,000 outpatient visits and over 2,500 inpatient admissions annually. The Endocrinology Department is equipped with advanced medical devices, including bone density testing equipment (DXA), insulin pump therapy systems, visceral fat measurement devices, early diabetes screening devices, Doppler blood flow detectors, peripheral nerve testing instruments, ultrasound debridement treatment devices, continuous glucose monitoring systems, portable blood ketone testing systems, and a hospital-wide information-based blood glucose management system. In 2018, the Endocrinology Department was designated as the Sichuan Province Diabetes Specialized Nurse Training Base.
Our Team:
At present, the department has an excellent teaching and research faculty, including 7 master's supervisors, 3 professors (chief physicians), 6 associate professors (associate chief physicians), 3 lecturers (attending physicians), 4 assistant lecturers (residents), 1 technician, 2 deputy chief nurses, 5 head nurses, 13 nurses, and 1 nurse. Among the staff, there are 4 doctoral students and 9 master's students (1 in progress), forming a well-structured, rigorous, technically skilled, and strong talent team.
Teaching and Research:
The department has obtained 1 national invention patent and more than 10 national utility model patents. Currently, it undertakes more than 10 provincial and ministerial-level research projects and publishes an average of over 30 academic papers annually. The Endocrinology Department is a branch of the Department of Internal Medicine of the Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College. It is a master's degree program in internal medicine and is responsible for the theoretical and clinical teaching of the specialty of endocrinology and metabolic diseases for undergraduate, bachelor, graduate, and international students. It is also a standardized training base for resident physicians and nurses in Sichuan Province. The department has enrolled and trained more than 50 graduate students in over 10 sessions. It has edited 2 textbooks as chief editor, 1 textbook as associate editor, and contributed to or translated 6 textbooks (monographs).
Specialized Medical Services:
The Endocrinology Department has a total of 11 subspecialties: 1) Diabetes subspecialty; 2) Osteoporosis and metabolic bone diseases subspecialty; 3) Hypothalamic-pituitary diseases subspecialty; 4) Adrenal diseases subspecialty; 5) Gonadal diseases subspecialty; 6) Thyroid diseases subspecialty; 7) Diabetic foot diseases subspecialty; 8) Hyperuricemia/gout subspecialty; 9) Obesity subspecialty; 10) Puberty and development subspecialty; 11) Rare and orphan diseases subspecialty. The department places great emphasis on the development of subspecialties and requires all medical personnel in the department to have their own expertise and mastery.
The department pays special attention to improve the quality of medical care. Based on international and domestic practices and the current conditions of the department, a detailed quality control and assurance system has been established. A quality control team, composed of the department director and medical group leaders, has been formed. The department has developed diagnostic and treatment protocols for common endocrine diseases based on evidence-based medicine and individualized treatment plans tailored to different patients' conditions. The department regularly supervises and guides the implementation of internal departmental affairs, promptly points out and rectifies any issues identified, and has received praise from patients and their families.
